DAN HALSTEAD - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER DAN HALSTED, president of Halsted Pictures, has a first-look producing deal with Peter Guber's Mandalay Pictures, based at Paramount. Among his film and television projects scheduled for upcoming release are "Witchblade," based on the best-selling Top Cow comic book, starring Yancy Butler. Among those scheduled to begin production are Oliver Stone's next film, "Beyond Borders," to star Kevin Costner and Meg Ryan; "Servicing Sara," directed by Reginald Hudlin; "The Day Reagan Was Shot," written and directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh; and "Rainbow's End," the Judy Garland story, directed by Bronwen Hughes. Prior to forming his own company, Halsted was the president of Illusion Entertainment Group, a partnership with Oliver Stone. His producing credits while at Illusion include Stone's hit film "Any Given Sunday," the critically acclaimed "The Virgin Suicides," Oliver Stone's Academy Award-nominated "Nixon," "The Corruptor," "U-Turn," "Freeway" and "Cold Around the Heart." He also executive produced the award-winning documentary "Assassinated: The Last Days of Kennedy and King," for TBS.Before joining Illusion, Halsted was Senior Vice President of Production at Hollywood Pictures, during which he oversaw production on numerous successful films, including "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle," "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Encino Man," "Tombstone," "Evita" and "While You Were Sleeping." While at Hollywood Pictures, he ran the studio's minority writing fellowship program. Prior to that appointment, Halsted had been associated with the Bauer-Benedek Agency (now United Talent) since its inception in 1986, packaging such films as "K-9," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "New Jack City," "Robocop," "There's Something About Mary" and "The Untouchables." Halsted began his career at Twentieth Century Fox, where he served as executive assistant to Scott Rudin, the head of production. |
